Sfera Studio had the privilege of collaborating with Breeze Magazine, a prominent lifestyle publication in Borneo, to develop a digital platform for Kota Kinabalu Restaurant Week 2024. The event, spearheaded by Ruben Schrijver, manager of Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, aimed to promote fine dining experiences in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to both locals and travellers. Despite Sabah's popularity as a tourist destination for its natural attractions, the focus on showcasing its culinary offerings was lacking. This endeavour sought to change that narrative.

Problems we solve

The Kota Kinabalu Restaurant Week 2024 project presented a unique opportunity for Sfera Studio to contribute to the local community by elevating its dining scene. With a clear mission to spotlight Kota Kinabalu's gastronomic delights, the organizers, led by Ruben Schrijver and Dinoza Mahruf, envisioned a digital platform that would serve as an informative hub for the event, akin to renowned restaurant weeks worldwide, such as Boston Restaurant Week. This vision necessitated a user-friendly website that would not only showcase participating restaurants and their offerings but also engage and attract participants through a seamless digital experience.

The Process

The development process began with an in-person meeting with Dinoza Mahruf, who provided a detailed PDF reference document outlining the project's scope and requirements. Leveraging our expertise in Webflow, we embarked on designing and developing the website, focusing on creating a visually appealing interface and seamless user experience. Collaborating closely with Michelle, Breeze Magazine's resident designer, we ensured that design milestones were met efficiently to meet the event's tight timeline.

The most challenging aspect of the project was crafting the menu template on the CMS collection page. Each restaurant had unique menu categories, types, options, and variants, requiring meticulous planning and organization to ensure a cohesive and intuitive menu browsing experience for users. Through constant communication and collaboration with the organizing team and participating restaurants, we were able to overcome these challenges and deliver a high-quality product.

The Outcome

The result of our collaboration was the KKRW 2024 Website (https://kkrestaurantweek.com/), a comprehensive digital platform that served as a central hub for the event. The website showcased each restaurant's menu items on promotion, along with the prices they would be available at during the event week.

Additionally, the website provided information about the event, its organizers, and sponsors, serving as a valuable resource for both participants and organizers alike.

The Impact

Increased awareness of the KKRW Event.

Higher than expected participations of the event giveaway.
