Platform

Webflow

Clancy Stoman, a former lender on The Volte, a prominent fashion-sharing platform, envisioned a platform where lenders could rent out their dresses independently. This vision expanded to include other lenders and the option for renters to outright buy pieces. Seeking to create an alternative to The Volte, Clancy collaborated with design partner Team PDC Creative, who then engaged Sfera Studio for their expertise in Webflow. The goal was to build a platform that could compete with The Volte, offering a seamless user experience and robust functionality.

Problems we solve

Team PDC Creative recommended Webflow for its familiarity and flexibility, and after Sfera Studio presented a technically feasible approach at the right price and timeframe, Clancy gave the green light. The challenge was to create a platform that not only matched The Volte's functionality but surpassed it, offering a user-friendly interface, integrated messaging, and seamless transactional capabilities.

The Process

Sfera Studio embarked on a comprehensive development process, starting with the frontend development in Webflow based on low-fidelity wireframes provided by Team PDC Creative. The backend development focused on functionality, including user authentication and account management with Supabase, database management with Supabase's Postgres database, and logic functions with Supabase Edge Functions. Integration of user-to-user chat with TalkJS and payment processing with Stripe further enhanced the platform's capabilities. The entire development process was managed using Trello, with asynchronous video communication via Loom.

The Outcome

The result of the collaboration was Designer Closet, a Webflow-based platform that combines e-commerce, user management, real-time chat, and backend business logic. The platform allows for user self-management, supporting both clients (borrowers) and vendors (lenders), and enables automated payouts through Stripe. One of the highlights is the integration of TalkJS, which facilitates user-to-user messaging within the platform, discouraging the sharing of private contact details and providing order milestone updates between vendors and clients.

The Impact

Designer Closet has enabled Clancy to transition from running her business on a competitor platform to competing in the space with her own platform. After a closed beta test, the platform quickly gained traction, receiving orders within the first few weeks. The platform's success has not only provided Clancy with a viable alternative to The Volte but has also positioned Designer Closet as a leading player in the fashion-sharing market, empowering lenders and renters alike.
